FAQ
What documents are needed to arrange a funeral?
To arrange a funeral, you’ll need the medical death certificate, the ID of the deceased, the ID of the person arranging the service, and—in some cases—specific documents depending on whether it’s a burial or cremation.
How much will the funeral service cost?
On Funecon, you can get a no-obligation quote in just a few clicks. Prices vary depending on the municipality or province.
Who is responsible for paying funeral costs?
Under Spanish law (Article 1894 of the Civil Code), the spouse, descendants, or ascendants of the deceased are responsible for covering funeral costs.
Can I get a refund if I paid in full but didn’t use the service?
Yes. If the service hasn’t been used, you can request a full refund at any time of payment. Just contact support@funecon.es
How does the €150 deposit work and why is it useful?
Our €150 deposit lets you secure today’s price for your chosen service for up to 6 months. The deposit sits on your account and is deducted from your final bill when you proceed. After paying the deposit you’ll receive an email showing the estimated total, the deposit received, and a link to pay the balance whenever you’re ready.
Can I arrange a funeral in Spain if I live abroad?
Yes. Many of our clients live outside Spain. We can manage the entire process remotely, including paperwork, payment, and coordination with local providers.
What does a funeral service booked through Funecon include?
Our funeral services include all paperwork and administrative processes, a coffin, basic funeral elements, an obituary in EnHomenaje.es desired and also if chosen cremation with an urn. You may also add a wake or farewell ceremony if desired.
What is a “Quote request” and how does it work?
It’s a free, no-obligation way to see your exact price before you decide.
Select your municipality (this sets the correct local price band).
Choose the service (cremation/burial) and any options (e.g., wake, ceremony).
Tap “Talk to an advisor / Get a quote.”
You’ll get an instant, itemised email (VAT included), and an advisor will call within 30 minutes to answer questions and help you proceed.
You don’t pay anything at this step. When you’re ready, you can continue later with a €150 deposit or full payment. If you change details and submit again within 60 minutes, we’ll update your existing quote so your inbox stays tidy.
Didn’t get the email? Check your spam/junk folder or contact support@funecon.es.
Can I choose between burial and cremation?
Yes, you can choose either. The only exceptions for cremation are cases where the body has been exposed to ionising radiation (medical treatments) or where prohibited by a judicial authority.
When can I book Funecon’s services?
Our services are for those who have recently passed away or are nearing the end of life. You can either make a deposit for the chosen service directly on our website or fill out our form so we can guide you through the process
What is the medical death certificate and where do I get it?
It’s an official document signed by a doctor confirming a person’s death. In hospitals, the attending doctor will issue it. For deaths at home, you’ll need to contact 112 so a doctor can provide it.
Is VAT applied to funeral services?
Yes. In Spain, funeral services are subject to 21% VAT, making them one of the most heavily taxed in Europe compared to countries like Italy, Ireland, and Portugal, where no VAT is applied.
What should I do immediately after a death?
Call our 24/7 service centre. Our advisors will handle everything from there. You can also visit one of our partner funeral offices or request that a representative come to your home.
